Understanding a few simple colour principles can result in successful colour combinations for/ in every aspect of our lives.
Complementary colours are opposite on the colour wheel. The complementary colour of a primary color (red, blue, and yellow) is the colour you get by mixing the other two (red + blue = purple; blue + yellow = green; red + yellow = orange).
So the complementary colour for red is green, for blue it's orange, and for yellow it's purple. Because they are opposites, they tend to look especially lively when used together. When you put complementary colours together, each colour looks more noticeable.
The feeling you get when looking at bright complementary colours next to each other is a vibrating or pulsing effect. Mixing brilliant complementary colours gets attention.
