The hunt for the perfect wedding gown can be exciting and emotional and at times exasperating, because you are presented with a world of options and the pressure to find "The One" can be great! But don't worry and remember that." Beauty comes in al different shapes and sizes" and that there is a dress for everyone!
Bridal styles go in and out of fashion, but today virtually every wedding dress has its origins in one of seven silhouettes. Not every dress is equally suited to every bride, however. Determine which shapes are best for your figure by seeking the advice from Joy of Colour either in a one to one consultation or online consultation.
There are different types of silhouettes and we shall introduce them here. And if you know which silhouette suits you best, you can find the right one faster.
The shape of your skirt will have a strong influence on the whole look of your outfit on the day. The silhouette can range from a traditional full-skirted ball gown shape to a more modern sleek column dress. Whatever you choose should make you feel look gorgeous but should also be comfortable.
1. Ball Gown
The most traditional of all shapes, the ball gown has a fitted bodice that leads into a full skirt. Pleats or gathers in the skirt are what makes it a ball gown.
2. A- Line
Narrow at the top and expanding out into a triangle or an "A" shape, the line of this skirt is ungathered, clean, slimming and it is one of the most popular lines, as it looks wonderful on a variety of body types.
3. Sheath
It is a modern, sexy, and body-skimming shape. This narrow silhouette accentuates the curves of the body.
4. Mermaid/ Fishtail
This shape features a slim, tapered skirt that hugs the lines of the hips and thighs (often cut on the bias) and then flares out below the knee and put more emphasis on the bride's curves. It is a variation of the Sheath and is the most contemporary of all the gowns. A fishtail dress is usually flatter at the front than the similar mermaid style but flares at the back and sides.
5. Empire
The high waistline which falls right under the bust is the hallmark of the Empire gown. Usually the shape of the skirt falls into an A-Line gown however; it can also be a sheath or mermaid style.
