Different ways to tie a tie

The tie is your most important formal wear accessory and gives you the opportunity to use colour and pattern with flair. As in the suit you need to choose the right style and size of pattern for your bodyshape, proportion, scale and height. The tie is often the hit or miss factor in a men's formal wear.

Whatever the colour or pattern of your tie, the way you tie it must be right for your scale, proportion, style of suit and occasion.

Golden Rules when tying your tie:

  • The knot of your tie must fit close to the collar of your shirt so that no gap is visible between them
  • The tip of your tie should rest above the waistband or belt on your trousers.
  • The tail of the tie should not be seen
